Our slabs have all been properly aged for approximately one year per inch of thickness, leaving a moisture content of about 12%. This process creates top-quality pieces which are ideal for use in furniture, art, instruments, flooring or many other applications.

Our Timber Slab Process

As each tree varies so much, so do the timber slabs they provide. The slab is a living breathing item and should be treated accordingly, depending on use. The wooden fibres cyclically expand and condense over time so both sides should be finished at the same time and with the same finish to prevent warping.

All these processes create different variations in cracks and splits, giving each one a unique appeal. Over time they will move different amounts depending on the variety of wood, making some timber more suitable for different applications. For example, Mango and Raintree slabs are more likely to move than Mahogany in the same environmental conditions, so additional support such as channelling is recommended.

Sanding and Finishing Services

We can assist with your sanding and finishing requirements for your slabs depending on your project’s needs and will be happy to give expert advice. We charge $80 per square metre (approximately one hour, including both sides), to level the slab, and the same again to sand to 80 grit.
